late reply
Sorry, I have joined this forum only recently, so my reply might come late; late AND least - and also first I might add -:
Very likely you already know some of this books: you'll find between one third to an half of information provided is about uniforms; however, you'll also find data about organization, weapons and campaigns; 48 pages, with many B/W photos and colour plates.
Men-At-Arms Series (Osprey Publishing, Wellingborough, Northants, UK 1997 - 2000).
David Nicolle
The Italian Invasion of Abyssinia
Philip S Jowett
The Italian Army 1 (1940-1943)
The Italian Army 2 (1940-1943, Africa)
The Italian Army 3 (1943-1945)
Nicola Pignato
Italian Armored Vehicles Of World War Two
Squadron Signal Publications, Carrolton, Texas 2002
Nicola Pignato is an authority about Italian Military Vehicles in WWII: this is an illustrated publication (mostly for modellers) but if you want to know what italian AFVs looked like (laced with sound infos and data) try this one.
Lastly, I heartly reccomend the next one: a study of the best Italian Units (Ariete, Littorio, Tieste, Centauro)in the North African theatre. The title is a translation of Italian Carristi (tank Crew) motto "Ferrea Mole, Ferreo Cuore". In the bibliography you'll also find references to many other publications in English:
Ian W. Walker
Iron Hull, Iron Hearts
Crowood Press Ltd
Ramsbury, Marlborough, Wiltshire UK 2003
I myself am interested in publications written by non-Italian authors: they provide a different point of wiew and a welcome new approach from what has been published by Italian authors (with less rhetorics, complaints or claims).
However, keep off Captain's Corelli's Mandolin (I haven't read the book, but I watched the movie: no Italian and no Greek would recognize themselves in the characters' cliches and lines).
Saluti.
